Students participated in a radio program, music production and Dj workshops, The participating students faced social, physical and learning disadvantages and some come from indigenous backgrounds. The program kept students highly engaged and motivated. All the students were determined to learn and succeed in the program.
We at Harbor View campus have enjoyed working with Urban Movement and Highly recommend the Urban Movement Entertainment program for any youth interested and passionate about music and would encourage others to do so,
To whom it may concern
Ashley Youth Detention Centre in Tasmania, has been working with Robert “Ragz” Taylor for over two years. DJ Ragz’s program brief was to support young people to explore the skills associated with DJ’ing. DJ Ragz has given much more than we hoped for.
He has run weekly DJ sessions that have been highly engaging for all our young people. His sessions have given them learning and performance confidence and new skills in the use of ICT.
Our young people have shown incredible creativity and drive in the pursuit of crafting music. The entire sessions have become a much needed regulation space and therapeutic practice.
The most outstanding aspect of the program is its community connections, where we’ve had young people perform at public events and look at careers in the DJ, radio and entertainment space.
We highly recommend Robert “Ragz” Taylor and his DJ program for any youth or therapeutic program. His ability to build and maintain relationships with young people has led to wonderful on-going outcomes for all of our young people.

I am writing to offer my highest recommendation for Urban Movement Entertainment.
I have had the pleasure of working with Urban Movement Entertainments for 4 years and can confidently say that they consistently deliver exceptional programs, and they get results.
Urban Movement has always impressed me with their professionalism, attention to detail, creativity, enthusiasm, caring nature and communication. Their ability to walk into a room and engage with neurodiverse and neurotypical youth of all ages in music is commendable. In my experience, they go above and beyond to meet the participants needs, and their commitment to quality and wanting the participant to succeed is evident in everything they do.
Connecting with youth through music is non-confrontational and allows a connection to occur with others without stigmas. Their wellbeing and mental health music programs are designed to support, develop and create pathways for the youth of today so they can lead tomorrow.
I am confident that Urban Movement Entertainments will continue to excel and make a positive impact on any future youth projects or partnerships. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking wellbeing and mental health programs through arts.
I was introduced to Robert Taylor in 2019 when a student from the Regency Campus asked me if they could do their Vocational Placement at Urban Movement Entertainment.
At that time I was unaware of this service and, after discussion with the student, I was more than happy to meet with Robert to discuss Vocational Placement and the requirements of both parties.
I am so glad I did. Four years have passed since that first meeting and Robert has willingly offered to supervise, mentor and guide at least five more Certificate IV Youth Work students, all of whom have gained employment in the youth work sector.
During this time, Robert has provided a unique workplace experience for students who have a passion for creative arts particularly in music, dance or production. He has enabled them to gain an invaluable insight and understanding into the ways in which the creative arts are a natural and empowering fit in a youth worker role. Robert has shown an unrelenting commitment to our students and been an exceptional role model with values and principles demonstrating his deep understanding of best practice at its finest.
Students have always felt supported, listened to and valued by Robert.
They see in Robert someone they can talk to and feel safe with.
Robert has accepted students where they are at and has continually provided opportunities for them to step outside of their comfort zone, to be challenged and to grow and develop as a practicing youth worker of the highest calibre.
Robert has high but fair and expectations of our students and has continually supported them to meet the Vocational Placement requirements and to do so in a way that has demonstrated an excellent work ethic and standard, a professional attitude and quality work.
Robert has provided supervision and debrief sessions with students to enable them to reflect on their practice, ask questions and hear and respond to constructive feedback. Robert has provided exceptional mentorship particularly in the area of professional boundaries, person-centred and strengths-based practice. He has supported our students over and above my expectations and done so tirelessly and with a genuine commitment to do whatever he can to play his part in building the capacity of future youth workers to be the best they can be.
Robert is a man of integrity. He is a highly skilled and exceptional youth worker and an exemplary role model for our students. It is a privilege to work with Robert and I remain incredibly grateful for his ongoing dedication to providing placement opportunities for our students and strengthening their capacity for a positive and productive future in the youth work sector.
Giving Greg his shot
Ten weeks on from leaving AYDC, 17-year-old Greg Lake’s connection with the Hoops 4 Life basketball and associated DJ program is a big part of his life. He has played DJ sets at three National Basketball League (NBL) first division games, and he’s busy creating themed playlists for use in the Hoops 4 Life schools’ program.
Greg says, ‘Hoops 4 Life… and having the opportunity to meet Coach Tony is what has made a big change in my life. I have picked up a couple of new hobbies – DJing run by DJragz and Basketball with Hoops 4 Life. With these programs I have learnt a lot of new skills and enjoyment with things I didn’t think I would.’
Hoops 4 Life founder and president, Tony Moore (aka Coach Tony) says, ‘Greg has met the North-West Thunder’s chairperson, the president, the coach and the team and they were all congratulating him and thanking him for DJing. I loved seeing how blown away he was by so much positive attention and feedback.’
It’s a far cry from the first time Tony and Greg met at AYDC. ‘He was totally against participating.
We talked after the session and found a way to connect, and Greg hasn’t looked back. The program is about prevention and behaviour change with basketball as a side benefit. Greg’s good at basketball, but it’s through the DJ program that he’s found his passion.’ Tony says.
Tony has run the Hoops 4 Life program at AYDC once or twice a week since September 2023.
He credits AYDC Programs Coordinator, Heidi Walker with enabling him to set the program up and build strong connections with young people while they’re at AYDC. Mel Vasek and the rest of the AYDC Case Management team and Ashley School staff are also key partners. They provide targeted strategies for working successfully with each young person.

“Working within the UME community and culture is defiantly the best part of my day. Making a difference to the communty.”
Robert is a fantastic guy and does excellent work within the youth space. His DJ programs are a great way for disengaged youth to gain confidence and industry skills all whilst having fun in a safe supportive environment.
